10. Autofocus

When you attach the M.Zuiko Digital ED 90 mm f/3.5 Macro IS PRO to the older Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II the autofocus won't be completely noiseless; you will be able to hear slight buzz.

When it comes to the speed, running through the whole distance range and confirming the focus takes about 1 second. It's long but you have to remember that here here is a range from 0.25 of a meter to infinity to cover, from 1:1 scale to infinity, and you don't have any possibilities to limit it somehow in the middle.

After attaching the MC-20 converter the situation changes a bit. The speed remains more or less the same, if everything goes right you can focus within one second. The problem is that in this combination the lens strays more often: the autofocus sometimes wavers or goes in the wrong direction. Finally, after a while the focus is set properly well but it lasts longer.

After attaching the tested lens to the OM System OM-1, equipped with the newest software supporting the cooperation with the M.Zuiko Digital ED 90 mm f/3.5 Macro IS PRO, the situation is a bit better. You still can hear slight buzz of the autofocus but focusing becomes a bit faster - it takes about 0.8-0.9 of a second and there are less wavering and delays. It also concerns the cooperation with the teleconverter which is improved, especially when it comes to passing from infinity to the minimum distance, a process that becomes quicker and surer.

The tested lens didn't show any distinct front or back focus tendencies on any of two bodies we used in our test.
