11. Summary

Pros:

  • solid, weather-sealed casing, mostly made of metal,
  • sensational image quality in the frame centre,
  • very good image quality on the edge of the frame,
  • negligible longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • excellent correction of lateral chromatic aberration,
  • negligible spherical aberration,
  • sensible coma correction,
  • low astigmatism,
  • out-of-focus areas pleasing to the eye,
  • sensible performance against bright light,
  • accurate autofocus.

Cons:

  • slow and a bit too noisy autofocus,
  • a tad too pronounced vignetting,
  • distinct focus breathing.
The Fujnon XF 56 mm f/1.2 R WR not only proved to be better than its predecessor but also put its faster 1.0/50 brother in his place. The new model boasts of a whole list of impressive assets, starting with the amazing resolution record in the frame centre. It has one significant flaw, slow autofocus; when it comes to other disadvatages, noticeable vignetting is not so important and focus breathing will be a problem mainly for video shooting fans.

As I've already written, the launch of this lens was a complete surprise for me but our test showed that it turned out to be a quite pleasant surprise. We hope there will be more of such launches in the future.
