Sony FE 70-200 mm f/4 Macro G OSS II
10. Autofocus and focus breathing
Autofocus
First we tested the lens by attaching it to an older body, namely the Sony A7R III. In this case the autofocus performance was completely noiseless and quick. Running through the whole distance range, which is huge by the way, took about 0.5-0.6 of a second at 70 mm and 0.6-0.7 of a second at the maximum focal length. Of course you have to remember about the focus limiter, which you can set at a range from 3 meters to infinity – after employing it the focusing time can be shortened to an excellent value of 0.2-0.3 of a second. Then we attached the lens to a newer body, the Sony A7R V and...practically nothing changed. Once again the autofocus performance was very quick, very silent, and efficient.
The accuracy of the mechanism also should be praised – it was simply exemplary, no matter what body we used in our test and no matter whether we shot outside or in the studio.
