In case of lenses with such parameters as the tested Sony model the performance against bright light is always a tricky thing because there are a lot of obstacles. You deal with an aperture that forces to employ a big front element that is, additionally, positioned quite shallowly inside the casing. The lens is a closed construction so all elements move only inside, no matter whether you change the focal length or use autofocus. It limits a lot the positions where you can put inner apertures and baffles. As if it wasn't enough, the optical construction of this lens consists of 19 elements positioned in 17 groups. It means as many as 34 air-to-glass surfaces where you can catch unwanted reflections.
Small wonder we didn't expect here a perfect performance and indeed, the reality check was far from perfect. Do we feel disappointed? Not really. The observed level can be described as medium although momentarily it approached dangerously close high levels and you can notice it especially well when you stop the aperture down.
