When it comes to the performance against bright light the task was relatively difficult. You deal with a front element that is not shielded by any protruding part of the casing, a completely internal focus setting system that demands a lot of space inside the lens and limits the possibility of using internal apertures and a lot of ribbing, many movable elements, connected to the autofocus and stabilization mechanisms, and 22 air-to-glass surfaces where you can catch unwanted reflections.
Small wonder the Nikkor's performance is mediocre at most. There is no tragedy but when the sun is inside the frame or right outside its edge you can catch very bright artifacts that might destroy your shot completely.
In this category the performance seems to be similar to the performance of the Sony model, a tad weaker than the performance of the Tamron, and noticeably weaker than the performance of the Sigma.
