Most of inexperienced optics producers from China face a lot of problems when it comes to proper optimizing their constructions for performance against bright light. The Viltrox AF 85 mm f/1.4 Pro is not an exception. Of course it would be foolish to expect lack of flares and ghosting when the sun is situated inside the frame but when you move the sun far away from the frame you would like to avoid them and you have every right to expect that much. Meanwhile the tested lens experiences most of problems when the sun is away from the frame. First you see a huge overexposed area that is able to destroy your shot completely and then, as you are moving the sun away and away, you still experience overall contrast loss and light arcs. In fact they remain even when you move the sun really far away. As you see the situation is rather bleak.
In order to defend the Viltrox a bit we can add that in this category the rival Meike fared even a tad weaker. Only the expensive Sony FE 85 mm f/1.4 GM II was able to offer you a sensibly good performance.
