1. Introduction

The 4/3 system designed for reflex cameras has boasted an excellent lens, the Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 50–200 mm f/2.8–3.5 SWD. Still when the Panasonic and Olympus companies decided to develop the Micro 4/3 system as well we had to wait almost ten years for a lens with similar parameters and of equally good quality.

Only in February 2018 Panasonic announced the launch of the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 50–200 mm f/2.8–4 ASPH. which, according to specifications and rumours, had a chance to be an instrument at least equally good as the Olympus we praised so much in our test. Right after its debut during the CP+ fair we could handle that lens and take some photos too. Now we would like to thank Panasonic Polska for a quick delivery of the lens we borrowed for a full test. Our impressions can be found in the following chapters – enjoy your reading!

You are also invited to get acquainted with our test procedure, described in the article "How do we test lenses?" If you feel it’s still not enough, please go to our FAQ section where you can find some further explanation.
