1. Introduction

The Sigma company have recently announced that, in the following years, they would focus mainly on mirrorless optics. Mind you, they didn't mean a simple remodelling of reflex camera lenses by adding appropriate mount extensions. They intended to launch completely new constructions, dedicated just for mirrorless cameras.

2019 was a perfect example that Sigma people are dead serious about that policy. This year alone we've seen four launches of Sony EF and L-mount lenses. It's worth reminding here that in 2018 Sigma showed 8 new lenses and among them 7 were designed for reflex cameras and only one for mirrorless cameras and it was a lens for models with smaller sensors than full frame. The reverting of that trend and employing all processing capacities in production of mirrorless systems seems to be an obvious conclusion.

It is hardly surprising, when you come to think about it. Mirrorless cameras have strengthened their position on the market and now are being offered by all major market players and Sigma company have been strongly engaged in the development of the L-mount system too.

There have been two waves of this year's Sigma launches. First, in July 2019, they announced three models: the A 14–24 f/2.8 DG DN, the C 45 m f/2.8 DG DN and the A 35 mm f/1.2 DG DN. In November that group was enlarged by the classic A 24–70 mm f/2.8 DG DN lens.

We of course couldn't fail to check how these devices fare in practice. We've already tested the Sigma A 35 mm f/1.2 DG DN, and now the time has come to look closer at the zoom Sigma A 14-24 f/2.8 DG DN.

We would like to thank Sigma ProCentrum for a speedy delivery of the final specimen of the tested lens. The results of our work you can find in the following chapters – enjoy your reading!

You are also invited to get acquainted with our test procedure, described in the article "How do we test lenses?" If you feel it’s still not enough, please go to our FAQ section where you can find some further explanation.
