The Holy Grail of lens designers is a universal lens of great picture quality at all focal length ranges, yet which is still affordable for the average consumer.

In August 2006, Nikon released a new DSLR model digital camera - the D80 - which brought more good news for photography fans. It was a new lens with a 18-135 mm focal length and aperture of f/3.5-5.6. Together with the D80, the lens was meant to establish a new kit set, which would eliminate the old model D70s and its 18-70 mm zoom. But this is not the end of the good news! Nikon claimed that the new lens is universal, of very good quality, yet at a price that isn't quite so high. It is now available for 300$, and if we decide to buy the lens together with the DSLR camera we have to pay 275$ extra.

Thanks to this tactic, the Nikon became the only firm in the world which has a full range of verifocal lenses at a very reasonable price. The models are: 18-55, 18-70, 18-135 and 18-200 VR.

We have already tested the 18-55 mm and 18-70 mm models so it is time to look at the 18-135 mm. Enjoy the article!
