Until recently only Canon had a lens of 1.4/50 parameters equipped with a silent and supersonic autofocus motor. In the last few years the situation has changed significantly, though. Sigma and Nikon have shown their own lenses of this class. Not to be outdone, Pentax announced the introduction of an smc DA* 1.4/55 lens at PMA 2008. This model entered the market at the turn of January and February.

The new Pentax lens differs from its rivals by having a slightly longer focal length and being designed for small APS-C sensor, which is indicated by the DA symbol in the name of the instrument.

Taking into account its high price, top series indicated by the golden star and complicated optical system, we should expect really excellent results. How does it look in reality? I’m asking you to read further chapters to find out.

The lens has been loaned to us by Apollo Electronics – the official Pentax distributor in Poland.

We would also like to encourage you to familiarize yourselves with our test procedure described in the article "How do we test the lenses?"
