Tamron AF 55-200 mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro

6. Distortion

At 55 mm focal length the geometric deformations are imperceptible (-0.03%). The distortion increases swiftly, though, and at 85 mm you can already notice distinct but not very high “pincushion” (the level of 1.7%), which reaches its peak at 130 mm (2.0%) and at 200 mm decreases again to 1.75%.

In fact it is not a big issue; it can become a bit bothersome only near 130 mm focal length. In this category the Tamron reaches a result in-between its main competitors: the Nikkor has the distortion level significantly higher at every focal length and the Canon – similar or lower.
