3. Build quality

As mentioned before, the lens is mainly made of plastic. Plastic is the main element of its body and its threading bayonet. The only advantage in this situation is the Canon’s weight – it is only 190 grams.

There is a sizable and quite comfortable focal length changing ring on the lens’s body. At the very edge of the lens we will find a really narrow manual sharpness adjustment ring. It is not very comfortable, with no scale and no ability for precise work. Right underneath the ring there is a 58 mm filter thread.

As far as the inner construction is concerned, the Canon 18-55 mm contains 11 lenses set up in 9 groups including one aspheric lens.
