6. Distortion

As long as you use the tested Nikkor with DX sensors bodies the distortion won’t be problematic at all. At 70 mm focal length you get just slight barrel distortion of –0.44% which in the middle of the focal range turn into a slight “pincushion” (0.57%). It increases to the value of 0.89% at the maximum focal length.

The problem, far from serious but still, appears when you pass to the full frame. At 70 mm the situation is more or less good because barrel distortion reaches just –0.56% there. The distortion changes its sign quickly, though, and starts to increase – at 135 mm it reaches the value of 1.57%. The most distinct problems you see at 200 mm focal length where it gets to 2.14%.

If those moderately serious distortion problems don’t suit you, you should think about the f/2.8 Nikkor. In its case, at no focal length the distortion exceeded a level of 1.4%.
