A small number of NX system lenses, tested by us so far, makes it impossible to say unanimously what their maximum results can be in this category. So far, in our tests conducted on the Samsung NX10, we dealt mainly with “pancakes” and the best of them reached up to about 50 lpmm. Traditionally the decency level we determine taking into account the values different lenses get near f/16 - in this case from 34 to 36 lpmm.

The results of the Samsung NX 45 mm f/1.8 2D/3D in the frame centre and on the edge are presented on the graph below.

You can tell at once that you don’t deal here with a „pancake” – the dimensions weren’t here the most important priority so the Samsung 1.8/45 doesn’t have any problems with exceeding 50 lpmm. By f/4.0 and f/5.6 MTFs reach near 51 lpmm. It would be also difficult to complain about the performance at the maximum relative aperture where the lens gets to 38 lpmm. The only thing you can carp about is the visible lack of improvement of the image quality on stopping down in the range from f/1.8 to f/2.0. Fortunately further stopping down makes the image improve very quickly because the MTF50 values, reached by f/2.8, are on a very good level of 48 lpmm.

The performance on the edge of the frame can be praised as well. At the maximum relative aperture the decency level is reached and from f/2.8 upwards we deal with images of good and very good quality.

To sum up Samsung once again proved that they know how to construct good quality optics – the number of efficient NX system lenses has increased once again.

At the end we present crops taken from JPEG files of photos of our resolution testing chart.
