1. Introduction

Zeiss and Sony were those companies which started a wave of new 1.4/50 mm class lenses by presenting the Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50 mm f/1.4 ZA SSM in February 2013. Then the launches followed one another and we saw respectively: the Zeiss Otus 1.4/55, the Nikkor AF-S 58 mm f/1.4G and the Sigma A 50 mm f/1.4 DG HSM. Korean Samyang didn’t want to be left behind and in August 2014 they showed their own 50 mm device in two versions: movie and photographic.

The photographic version of that lens have recently found its way to our editorial office so now we can present its full test. We would like to thank the distributor of Samyang in Poland, Next77 company, for lending us one specimen of that lens for testing purposes.

You are also invited to get acquainted with our test procedure, described in the article "How do we test lenses?" If you feel it’s still not enough, please go to our FAQ section where you can find some further explanation.
