7. Coma, astigmatism and bokeh

The correction of such off-axis aberrations as coma and astigmatism is a nice surprise; after all they usually constitute huge problems of small “pancakes”. The coma is corrected by the Canon 2.8/24 STM in a brilliant way – even at the maximum relative aperture and in the very corner of the frame it is difficult to notice its influence.

The correction of astigmatism can be described in a very similar manner. An average difference between horizontal and vertical MTF50 values amounted to 4.2%; such a result we deem to be on the borderline between a good and very good level. Once again the tested lens should be praised!

It would be difficult to have any reservations concerning the appearance of defocused images. There is nothing worrying in those light circles apart from distinct truncation stemming from the vignetting, unavoidable in such tiny devices.
