Carl Zeiss Milvus 85 mm f/1.4

10. Focusing

The Zeiss Milvus 1.4/85 is a completely manual lens. Fortunately the producer took proper care of the manual focus ring which working range is very wide and generally is a joy to use. Additionally you have a depth of field scale at your disposal ranging from f/16 to f/4.0.

The combination of full frame, 85 mm focal length and f/1.4 aperture makes the depth of field quite shallow so you still have to have some experience with manual devices in order to manage without any problems. A proper focusing screen in a viewfinder would be very helpful or the focus peaking function, providing you can attach the Milvus to a camera offering it.
