11. Summary

Pros:

  • good quality metal barrel,
  • very good image quality in the frame centre,
  • lack of problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • negligible lateral chromatic aberration,
  • moderate distortion,
  • slight vignetting on the APS-C sensor,
  • quite nice out-of-focus areas,
  • good price and quality vs. performance ratio.

Cons:

  • image quality near the maximum relative aperture on the edge of the frame could have been a bit better,
  • very high vignetting on full frame,
  • distinct coma,
  • significant astigmatism.
I am always overjoyed when I witness launches of lenses such as the Viltrox PFU RBMH 20 mm f/1.8 ASPH. The fiercer competition on the market the better the position of both testers and all customers. If, additionally, that new market player and their devices aim to fill the gaps in line-ups of brand name producers, the situation becomes really comfortable. Add to that the fact that, after our test, you can say the new lens is well constructed optically and quite affordable too... I think we are not far from perfection.

We keep our fingers crossed for the further development of the Viltrox company and we are impatiently looking forward to their future launches, especially concerning autofocus lenses. We hope we will be able to find out how they fare in practice soon enough.
