1. Introduction

Zeiss company have been very active in developping E/FE mirrorless system optics due to their long-standing cooperation with Sony. What's more, it seems they have been doing it in two different ways. Firstly they've just lended their logotype to products that have been released as original Sony devices. Secondly, they've offered their own E/FE-designed products independently, grouping them in several series – first Touit, Batis, and Loxia, recently also Ventrum.

We have had already an opportunity to look closer at 18 and 25 mm Batis lenses and test them. To be honest we didn't enjoy them much. They also seemed a bit overpriced – later on some third-party manufacturers lenses were released on the market and somehow they managed to offer more for less money.

Still we were very curious about the performance of the Zeiss Batis 40 mm f/2 CF and the results of our testing procedure can be found in the following chapters – enjoy your reading!
