10. Autofocus

Producers boast of a new autofocus mechanism called Stepping Motor (STM). Indeed, when connected to the Sony A7R II, the lens is practically noiseless but we can't praise the speed of the mechanism. Typically, running through the whole distance range and confirming the focus takes about 0.8-0.9 of a second. What's more, in weaker lighting conditions you might experience focus hunting problems, especially when you take photos one after the other. Even if the object remains in the same distance all the time you will experience some wavering and you'll have to wait for focus confirmation a bit longer.

The Samyang AF 75 mm f/1.8 FE didn't have any serious problems with accuracy for a change. The number of misses in our studio didn't exceed 3%; similar accuracy level we observed while testing the lens outdoor.

We didn't notice any more pronounced front or back focus tendencies. The photo below shows some asymetry of sharpness layout with a shift of focus toward the back the proper object but still it should be emphasized that the object itself remains sharp nevertheless and the photo was taken at the most difficult combination so near the minimum focusing distance. Anyway we didn't experience any problems during typical work with the lens.
