11. Summary

Pros:

  • shapely, small, lightweight casing,
  • excellent image quality in the frame centre,
  • good image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,
  • moderate longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • lack of problems with spherical aberration,
  • good distortion correction,
  • negligible vignetting on the APS-C sensor,
  • slight astigmatism,
  • silent and quick autofocus,
  • very nice out-of-focus areas,
  • good price/quality and price/performance ratio.

Cons:

  • too weak image quality on the edge of the frame in wide area close to maximum relative aperture,
  • high vignetting on full frame,
  • noticeable problems with coma correction.
We praised the Samyang AF 45 mm f/1.8 FE model for its very good price/performance ratio. The Samyang 1.8/75, tested here, costs $330 so is only $30 more expensive and optically better than the 45 mm model – you shouldn't be surprised that our assessment is even higher and we find this lens even more recommendable.

To sum up: for a very sensible price you get a lens which is optically very good, doesn't weigh a lot and is physically small so easy to handle. What more could you want?
