8. Vignetting

Fujifilm bodies very often correct vignetting on JPEG files even if you switch all image correcting options off. That's why we had to check vignetting on JPEG and RAW files. Let's start with the first JPEG format.

Despite an excellent aperture fastness you don't see here any significant problems. Vignetting is visible at the maximum relative aperture where it amounts to 34% (−1.22 EV). The situation improves very quickly on stopping down so by f/1.4 the aberration reaches 28% (−0.95 EV); by f/2.0 it decreases to 17% (−0.53 EV) and by f/2.8 it becomes imperceptible, being just 7% (−0.23 EV)

Still the real level of vignetting you can determine only by examining RAW files – appropriate thumbnails you can find below.

At the maximum relative aperture, you must take into account brightness loss of 45% (−1.73 EV). That's a lot but if you remind yourself that full frame 1.8-1.4 lenses with similar angles of view sometimes have results of 2-3 EV in this category, the overall assessment can't be bad. Especially that vignetting decreases very quickly on stopping down. By f/1.4 we got a result of 33% (−1.16 EV), by f/2.0 it decreases to just 18% (−0.57 EV), and by f/2.8 all vignetting problems end because its level drops to an imperceptible value of 9% (−0.27 EV). .
