10. Autofocus

The autofocus of the Sigma C 3.5/24, when joined with the Sony A7R III, is noiseless and very quick. Running through the whole distance range and confirming the focus takes from 0.3 to 0.5 of a second and it seems that the lens works faster toward infinity than toward the minimum focusing distance. These values are very good, especially when you take into account the fact that the minimum focusing distance amounts to just 0.108 of a meter.

It's worth mentioning that the stepping AF motor of the Sigma is compatible with Eye AF continuous autofocus.

A significant depth of field of the tested Sigma certainly made the performance of the focusing mechanism easier. Still, if the motor itself wasn't good, you would notice some mistakes anyway and we didn't notice any misses at all, no matter whether we tested the lens in our studio or outside.

We also didn't notice any distinct front or back focus tendencies.
