10. Autofocus and focus breathing
Autofocus
In the case of both bodies used in our test (the Sony A7R IIIa and the Sony A7R V) the autofocus of the Samyang 24-60 mm was noiseless and very quick. Running through the whole distance range and confirming the focus took practically always less than 0.5 of a second, a good result. Sometimes the mechanism wavered a bit, hunting round the proper position and it made the performance a tad slower.Problems disappeared completely after switching the autofocus mode into AF-C. The mechanism didn't waver anymore and the focusing time was shortened to just 0.3 of a second, an excellent result.
The accuracy of the Samyang 24-60 mm mechanism is far from the performance you can expect from a journalistic lens. Misses happened both during our studio test and outside, their number amounting to 5-10%.

The photos below show that the Samyang 24-60 mm didn't have any issues with front or back focus. It concerns both bodies used in our test.

Focus breathing
Focus breathing tests show reframing images as you oversharpen them. We conduct the test by manually passing from the minimum focusing distance to infinity with the aperture stopped down; then we check how the field of view of the lens changed as a result.A frame change ranging from 0 to 5% we consider to be low. Between 5 and 10% you can speak about medium levels. Usually such values also constitute the maximum efficiency level of any breathing compensation algorithms, present in some bodies. Between 10 and 15% focus breathing is high; above 15%, its level can be called very high.
