11. Summary

Pros:

small, shapely, and lightweight casing for given parameters,
good image quality in the frame centre,
sensible image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,
slight longitudinal chromatic aberration,
low lateral chromatic aberration,
lack of problems with spherical aberration,
moderate vignetting on the smaller APS-C/DX sensor,
silent and fast autofocus,
low focus breathing,
good price/performance and price/parameters index.

Cons:

image quality on the edge of the frame near the maximum relative aperture leaves a lot to be desired,
huge distortion on RAW files,
noticeable coma,
significant vignetting on full frame,
weak performance against bright light.

At first I thought that the summary of the test of the Samyang AF 24-60 mm f/2.8 FE would be rather pessimistic. You face here a compromise in the form of shortening the maximum focal length compared to the classic 24-70 mm, so the rest of the performance should have been more or less perfect and it is not the case.

Still, when I looked closer at the price and parameters of the tested lens and compared its performance to the performances of its rivals, I changed my mind. The Samyang remains noticeably cheaper than the Sigma C 28-70 mm f/2.8 DG DN and the Tamron 28-75 mm f/2.8 G2 and it is a bit more difficult to construct. Its zoom ratio is very similar, but it has to correct a much wider angle of view at its wide end. It fares a tad weaker than its rivals, mentioned above, but it is not that bad. The Samyang also remains a bit smaller and its price/performance ratio is slightly better.

At the same time, the mere fact that it appeared on the market increased competitiveness and your choice. Entering the systems of Sigma and Tamron often involved buying another ultra wide angle lens. If you choose the Samyang you might avoid that because for many users, an angle of view of over 80 deg might turn out to be enough. At the same time it's much easier to make do with a shorter focal range at the longer end of the focal spectrum or compensate for it with another lens. The number of cheap 85 mm f/1.8-2.0 models has increased significantly; there's plenty to choose from.

Not even mentioning the fact that buying such a moderately priced Samyang rather than a slower and plastic 28-70 mm kit lens is an excellent alternative.
