1. Introduction

Undoubtedly Venus Optics have found their place on the market employing a very wise tactics. They decided not to launch manual lenses with standard parameters, as such products are numerous; the next device in this category, even well-done, wouldn’t be anything original. They chose a different path, by offering manual lenses with extra features.

Accordingly, each and every of their products is somehow interesting. In the line-up you can find super-macro instruments with a magnification scale better than 1:1. If they offer a classic 1:1 macro, it is also an ultra wide angle lens (like the Venus Optics LAOWA 15 mm f/4 Wide-Angle 1:1 Macro). A 105 mm portrait lens features a smooth trans-focus system that improves bokeh and, additionally, you get a whole series of wide angle ZERO-D lenses with a very good distortion correction.

When it comes to the 110 degrees angle of view combined with a very bright f/2.0 aperture so far Venus Optics have presented two types of approach. First was used in the Venus Optics LAOWA 7.5 mm f/2 MFT which we had already a pleasure to test. The second approach was a bit more difficult because, with the same angle of view and aperture fastness they decided to construct a full frame lens, designed for mirrorless Sony cameras. We think here about the shorter flange focal distance Venus Optics LAOWA 15 mm f/2 FE ZERO-D which we are going to look closer at in this test – enjoy!

We would like to thank FoxFoto the distributor of Venus Optics Laowa products in Poland, for sending us one specimen of the tested lens very quickly.
