Samyang AF 35 mm f/1.4 FE

10. Autofocus

Without doubt the autofocus mechanism of Samyang Sony FE lenses is work in progress. The change can be seen, or rather heard, if you compare e.g. the Samyang AF 50 mm f/1.4 FE, which autofocus buzzed quite loudly, and the Samyang AF 35 mm f/1.4 FE, which autofocus is already silent. A round of applause for the improvement!

The speed of the autofocus still leaves a lot to be desired. Even in good lighting conditions the mechanism remains slow as running through the whole distance scale takes about 1.0- 1.2 seconds.

Still the fact that the focusing mechanism is accurate and it hits where it should every single time seems to be more important. We didn’t notice any problems concerning that aspect neither outdoors nor in the studio. The lens didn’t have any front or back focus tendencies either.
