The following chart presents a comparison between basic parameters of the tested lens and other Sony FE mount 1.4/35 models. The Samyang AF 1.4/35 FE is one of the biggest and heaviest instruments in the group; it is very close to the Sony and the reflex camera Samyang. The Voigtlander, being optically the simplest, looks like a real midget here.

In the photo below the Samyang AF 35 mm f/1.4 FE is positioned between two full frame 35 mm devices: the Sigma A 35 mm f/1.4 DG HSM and the Canon EF 35 mm f/2 IS USM.

The tested lens starts with a metal mount which surrounds a black, plastic window as big as 33×26 mm, with embedded contacts and an inscription Made in Korea. A rear element doesn’t move and is 28 mm in diameter. The area round it is properly blackened and matted, without any distinct slits which might allow dirt and dust to invade the interior of the lens.

The proper body of the lens starts with a black, metal ring with a white dot making an alignment with a camera easier; then you see the mount mark (Full Frame E-Mount) and the diameter of the filter thread (⌀67). The ring increases its diameter after a while and on the enlarged part there is the name of the company, parameters of the lens (AF 35/1.4 FE), and the minimum focusing distance (0.3m/0.98ft).

The next part is a manual focus ring, as wide as 41 mm, completely covered by fine ribbing. It is a focus-by-wire construction, its working range depends on the speed of the turning. If you turn the ring quickly you can run through the whole scale using an angle of about 180 degrees. If you turn it slowly you can reach a value of almost 360 degrees. Both values allow you very precise settings.

Further on you see a thin, red stripe and, right behind it, a metal part of the housing that doesn’t move and turns into a hood mount.

The front element of the lens is practically flat, immobile, and 52 mm in diameter. It is surrounded by a filter thread which doesn’t move and is 67 mm in diameter.

The optical construction of the Samyang consists of 11 elements positioned in 9 groups, two aspherical and two with a high refractive index (HR) among them. Inside you can also find a round aperture with nine blades which can be closed down to a value of f/16.

Buyers get both caps, a petal-type hood, and a soft pouch in the box.
