1. Introduction

The series of Samyang manual lenses, designed for mirrorless cameras with APS-C sensors, has been expanding slowly but consistently. It started with the Samyang 8 mm f/2.8 UMC Fisheye and then the ultra-wide-angle Samyang 12 mm f/2 NCS CS. Both these lenses proved to be so well-done that I’ve bought them myself for landscape and astrophotography. It was a good choice and I’ve enjoyed using them both very much ever since. I’ve even taken them on several photographic expeditions and the results made me happy.

In September 2015 the lineup of that company was enlarged by next two lenses of this line, the 21 mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC CS and the 50 mm f/1.2 ED AS UMC CS. In August 2018 Samyang announced the launch of the Samyang 85 mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS and this lens precisely is going to be the main character in our test.

The following chart presents a summary of basic parameters of lenses we wrote about earlier.
