6. Distortion

When it comes to the 85-90 mm class of lenses distortion has never been a big issue. Even older f/3.5, f/2.8, f/2.0, or f/1.8 constructions, with just several elements inside, corrected that aberration quite decently and its level hardly ever exceeded 1% (of course in absolute terms, because we still could observe both barrel and pincushion deformations).

The new Sigma features as many as 11 elements positioned in 10 groups, its aperture fastness is f/2.8, hardly something very demanding, and, with such an angle of view, distortion correction is easy– taking it all into account I was dead sure we wouldn't observe any geometric deformations in our test. I was wrong and now I feel very disappointed.

You can notice distortion already on the smaller APS-C sensor where our measurement showed a value of +1.69%. As you can imagine the situation is even worse on full frame, where we got a result of +3.78%. Taking into account the parameters of the tested lens such a performance can be called only dismal...
