Sigma S 200 mm f/2 DG OS

9. Ghosting and flares

I admit the bar was set very high in this category – after all you deal with a very big front element and a relatively short barrel inside which there are a lot of movable parts. It limits the places where you can install apertures and ribs. Add to that a very complex optical construction that consists of as many as 14 groups, with 28 air-to-glass surfaces where you can catch unwanted reflections and you understand why the performance against bright light might be a problem.

The task of the Sigma was more difficult than the task of reflex camera Canon and Nikon models as these lenses are not only bigger but also optically simpler.

Looking at photos below it's clear that the Sigma fares noticeably better than the Canon, even if its performance can hardly be called perfect. It's comparable to the performance of the Nikkor.
