Sigma S 200 mm f/2 DG OS
1. Introduction
The 2/200 models belonged to this group but they've never gained a level of popularity of two models mentioned above. There are three reasons for that. Firstly, the 200 mm model is more difficult to manufacture. In its case, with the same entrance pupil, you have to focus rays of light of the closest front element system and it makes it difficult to correct such a system properly well. Secondly, producers got themselves and us, the customers, used to the fact that the price of the lens increases with its focal length. The market expects that, out of the trio of 2/200, 2.8/300, and 4/400 lenses the first will be the cheapest and the second the most expensive. In reality, out of these three instruments, the 2/200 is the most difficult to design and to guarantee you high image quality. Thirdly, many experienced photographers already have in their arsenal professional 70-200 mm f/2.8 models and the 2/200 is, from their point of view, unnecessary duplicating of focal lengths. They prefer to spend their money on something like 2.8/300.

We look at such treats with greedy eyes and are very keen on checking how they fare in our testing procedures. The Sigma lens we decided to test as the first and we got one specimen of this lens courtesy of K-Consult company, the distributor of Sigma product for Polish market – thank you very much!
