12. Summary

Pros:

  • Solid, weather-sealed, aluminum casing,
  • sensational image resolution in frame centre,
  • very good image resolution on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • good image resolution on the edge of full frame,
  • slight longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • negligible lateral chromatic aberration,
  • low distortion,
  • very low astigmatism,
  • slight vignetting on APS-C/DX,
  • silent and rather efficient autofocus,
  • lack of focus breathing problems,
  • nice out-of-focus areas,
  • 5-year warranty,
  • very good price/performance and price/quality ratio.

Cons:

  • high vignetting level on full frame,
  • performance against bright light could have been better.
Looking at the pros and cons list, remembering that the Viltrox AF 50 mm f/.4 Pro costs just $466 we can say for sure that it is an exceptionally well-put-together lens and definitely worth recommending. At the same time we had no doubts whatsoever that it deserves our 'Good purchase' badge. A round of applause!
