8. Vignetting

Thumbnails shown below allow you to assess the vignetting performance of the tested lens when cooperating with the sensor of the Olympus E-PL1. As we’ve already proven in the previous chapters JPEG files are not corrected automatically so their vignetting level is, within a margin of error, very similar to the vignetting you see in RAW files.

At the maximum relative aperture the losses of light in the frame corners amount to as much as 66% (-3.11 EV). It is a huge value and, what’s interesting, comparable to the one we observed in the case of the Nokton 0.95/17.5. The vignetting remains still very high by f/1.4 and we determined its level as 46% (-1.78 EV); By f/2.0 it remains still visible, getting to 28% (-0.94 EV). A moderate level of vignetting can be observed only by f/2.8 where it is 17% (-0.53 EV). Further stopping down doesn’t cause any noticeable vignetting changes.
