9. Ghosting and flares

First four of these images, generated by the Canon 50D, seem to suggest there will be a lot of carping in this chapter. Well, it is not entirely true… There are a lot of quite distinct flares but they are limited to an area comparable to the size of the APS-C sensor. When you progress to full frame no additional artifacts appear in the frame so the relative area, covered by the flares, is noticeably smaller. Overall it doesn’t stick out that much.

What’s more, the artifacts can be caught only when the source of bright light is situated inside the frame. If you move it just slightly outside the images start to look good and, what’s important, they are properly contrasted. It allows us to silence the harshest criticism but still it must be said we expected a better performance.
