Keeping in mind the fact that you deal here with a very complex optical construction of a zoom that is also closed inside the barrel I didn't expect a good performance in this category. My expectations proved to be right. The Nikkor Z 180-600 mm f/5.6-6.3 VR had a lot of slip-ups during our test. With the sun positioned inside the frame and close to one corner it's really easy to get many colourful artifacts. As if it wasn't enough, these artifacts also occur when you move the sun a bit further. What's more, you still deal with significant contrast decreases.
The rival Sony 200-600 mm didn't manage to perform well in this category with the bar raised equally high – it is a kind of consolation.
