Astigmatism, understood as an average difference between vertical and horizontal MTF50 function values, amounted to 4.6%. It is a value on the borderline between very low and low levels. At the same time we didn't notice any significant differences between particular focal lengths. In this area the Sony 400-800 mm deserves to be praised.

Defocused circles of light look very well, especially if you take into account the fact that you deal here with a zoom instrument. Here the lens is really beyond reproach because light spread inside the circles is even, the intensity of the outer rim – negligible, and mechanical vignetting disappears almost completely on stopping down the aperture by just 1 EV.
