When it comes to the performance against bright light, relatively new optics producers present on the market, some Chinese producers among them, often hear bitter words from me in the tests because this category is problematic for them. Still, Viltrox seems to draw proper conclusions from their mistakes, and nowadays their lenses more often than not perform sensibly well.
It is precisely the case of the AF 35 mm f/1.2 LAB model. You can't have any serious reservations when it comes to its performance against bright light. At the maximum relative aperture, the situation is, overall, good, with few light artifacts. Even on more significant stopping down, the performance remains decent, and flares aren't so bothersome. There are two exceptions to this rule. Firstly, when the sun is situated close to the frame, you can catch three brighter rays of light that might be a tad annoying. Secondly, even if you move the sun far away from the frame in the opposite corner you can notice a small, reddish discolouration.
It's not a perfect performance, but this category certainly doesn't belong to the 'cons' list.
