1. Introduction

The history of fixed focal length Contemporary Sigma lenses as fast as f/1.4 and designed for cooperating with APS-C sensors started in February 2016. In that year the standard C 30 mm f/1.4 DC DN lens was launched. Over a year later, the wide angle Sigma C 16 mm f/1.4 DC DN joined the first lens and in 2018 Sigma released the telephoto Sigma C 56 mm f/1.4 DC DN.

This trio of lenses was present on the market for the next five years and only in April 2023 did Sigma enlarge the segment by launching the well-put-together C 23 mm f/1.4 DC DN model. Then, already in 2025, the offer was complemented by the ultra wide angle Sigma C 12 mm f/1.4 DC.

It seemed that the next launch would involve a 70-90 mm f/1.4 model, an equivalent of full frame classic 105 or 135 mm lens. Few producers offer such models, so the majority of APS-C sensor users have to employ 1.4/85 instruments that, more often than not, are big, heavy, and expensive. Apart from that, as Sigma already offered in this series lenses that are equivalents of classic focal lengths such as 24, 35, 50, and 85 mm, you could also expect a 135 mm device, also a classic, added to that group.

Sigma C 15 mm f/1.4 DC - Introduction

Still, Sigma chose another path and decided that the first models of this line deserve successors, as they've been present on the market for quite a long time. As a result in February 2026, we were shown the Sigma C 15 mm f/1.4 DC, a new version of the 16 mm model from 2017.

As we had tested all lenses from this line, we couldn't resist the pleasure of checking the performance of the latest model as well. Courtesy of K-Consult, a distributor of Sigma products for Poland, we managed to borrow one specimen of this lens for testing purposes – thank you very much!
