Viltrox AF 35 mm f/1.8 EVO

7. Coma, astigmatism and bokeh

Crops below show clearly that the Viltrox AF 35 mm f/1.8 EVO deals with coma decently well. In the corners of full frame, you can notice mainly a slight enlargement of the diode with a minimum amount of 'wings'. What's important in this category, the Viltrox performs better than the more expensive Nikkor and Sony models.

To make our test more interesting and comprehensive, we decided to show photos of night sky taken from the right-hand upper corner of a full frame by f/1.8, f/2.5, and f/3.5. In this case, coma levels are very similar to the previous photos of a diode.

Astigmatism, understood as an average difference between horizontal and vertical MTF50 function values, amounted to just 6%, a value we consider to be on the borderline between very low and low level.

The appearance of defocused circles of light, provided by the Viltrox 1.8/35 EVO, is quite nice. Its optical construction features one aspherical element so the effect of onion-ring bokeh remains visible but not especially intense. The interiors of the circles feature a quite even light spread and the outer rim is moderately bright.

Mechanical vignetting is bothersome at f/1.8 and f/2.5, but on stopping down the aperture by 2 EV it disappears completely.
