Most young Chinese optics manufacturers have considerable difficulty properly correcting their designs for shooting in strong backlight. The Sirui Aurora 85 mm f/1.4 is no exception here. It is difficult to expect flare and ghosting to be absent when the sun is within the frame, but we would like to avoid such artifacts when the sun is moved well outside the frame. Unfortunately, there are still plenty of problems in that situation. First, we encounter a huge flare that can completely ruin the shot. As we move the sun farther toward the corner and eventually outside the frame, we can still see a slight loss of contrast as well as colorful rays of light that remain noticeable even when the sun is already quite far away. This is, therefore, not a particularly positive showing.
In defense of the Aurora, it should be noted that the competing Viltrox and Meike models performed equally poorly in this category.
