Usage

The filter didn’t create any problems during the tests. It’s easily cleaned. The ring turns smoothly, a slight swoosh of friction is audible.

The transmission curve is flat in the visible spectrum, only violet color is transmitted a little worse. It’s not extinguished entirely as well, however it’s not an important effect. The polarizer becomes transparent in infrared. The extinction coefficient of about 3.5/10000 is a good result for a foil polarizer. C1 and C2 graphs indicate that we’re dealing with a quarter-wave plate of zeroth order designed for the middle of visible spectrum. The biggest downside of this filter is large light scattering. Applying multilayered antireflection coatings did handle well with unwanted flares, but large scattering triggered the appearance of halo effect in night pictures. It’s the cheapest of Marumi filters, the producer must have economized on something.
