The Nikon Z system is just seven years old but its producers have managed to present a very sensible line-up of telephoto lenses with really good focal lengths. What's more, they took care of different kinds of users. The most demanding ones got such models as the Nikkor Z 400 mm f/2.8 TC VR S or the Nikkor Z 600 mm f/4 TC VR S – and their prices can exceed even $12000. At the lower price point we get the Nikkor Z 400 mm f/4.5 VR S, the Nikkor Z 600 mm f/6.3 VR S and the Nikkor Z 800 mm f/6.3 VR S. If you are a fan of photography with a low budget you might get interested in different zoom lenses, like the Nikkor Z 100-400 mm f/4.5 -5.6 VR S or the Nikkor Z 180-600 mm f/5.6-6.3 VR, and their price doesn't exceed $1800.
We have already tested some of these lenses but not the cheapest model from this group, the Nikkor Z 180-600 mm f/5.6-6.3 VR, which is currently priced at about $1900.
It was launched on the Polish market in June 2023 and, undoubtedly, was an answer to the successful Sony FE 200-600 mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS. Nikon offers you an instrument with a bit wider focal range but very similarly priced, that also is a tad smaller, lighter; also its minimum focusing distance is shorter. As we'd already tested the Sony model we really anticipated the possibility of testing the rival Nikkor. It became possible courtesy of the Polish Nikon subsidiary as they set one specimen of this lens to our editorial office. The results we present in the following chapters- enjoy your lecture!
